TCMS National Junior Honor Society

The National Junior Honor Society is an organization that seeks to recognize students for academic achievements and encourage them to seek out leadership and service opportunities in their community.

Check out our webpage designed by past historians. We try to provide at least one optional large group service project per marking period. The rest of the service hours are earned by students individually, except for the last marking period when we complete a capstone community service project that all members must participate in in some way, according to NJHS bylaws.

GPAs are checked intermittently throughout the year and behavior monitored to ensure students uphold NJHS standards for character, leadership, and academics. As members, students are expected to earn 5 service hours each quarter and attend bi-monthly meetings to maintain active membership.

To join, students must have a 3.8 or higher cumulative, unweighted GPA. The GPA is calculated using final grades for 6th grade and first semester grades for 7th grade (or final 6th and 7th and first semester grades for 8th graders). Only 7th and 8th grade students who meet this GPA requirement are invited to join. Once invited, students must complete an application form, being careful to follow all directions. When the faculty committee meets to determine eligibility of applicants, we consider the extent of leadership, service, academic achievements, and co-curricular activities the students have participated in. We also look for teacher feedback in the areas of character, leadership, service, citizenship, and scholarship (the 5 pillars of NJHS). Students who meet those requirements will be invited to an induction ceremony that will take place in April, after spring break. Once inducted, 8th grade students are in for the remainder of the school year and 7th grade students’ membership carries over into 8th grade.
